Star Trek (2009)

Synopsis: Son of a famous captain who sacrificed himself to save many live, James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) is nothing like his father, he is arrogant and insolent. However, when the United Federation of Planets is threaten by the Romulan, Nero (Eric Bana), the same man who killed his father, he has to take is responsibilities and become the one everybody except him to be. Aboard the mythic USS Enterprise, Kirk, with the Vulcan Spock (Zachary Quinto), have to save the Federation without any support.

Review:

Here again, after producing Cloverfield , J.J. Abrams takes us in the sci-fi world, this time, as director with this first reboot of the original Star Trek television series which is magnificently successful.

This reboot take us back to the origins of the main characters in an alternative reality. In this eleventh film of the Star Trek films franchise, we can see the first flight of the famous USS Enterprise and the beginning of the friendship between Spock and Kirk.  

The timeline of the movie is perfectly respected. The viewer is never lost and know exactly what's going on. And the appearance of the Spock of the original series, Leonard Nimoy, made its effect since it remembers us the first adventures of the Enterprise’s crew.

The choice of this cast was a worth risk when we see what they did of these emblematic Star Trek’s characters – the personality, the emotions are well performed – and thanks to this movie, some actors were able to live the role in which they were stuck, especially Zachary Quinto who was for everybody Sylar from Heroes.

The movie last about two hours which is the standard for a science-fiction movie, it is not too long or too short even if they could gave it, maybe, fifteen minutes more. However, the special effect and the quality of the film erased this negative point. Most of the actions were unexpected and the scenario was perfectly written. We can noticed J.J. Abrams’ way to approach science-fiction, each details matter.

This prequel of the Star Trek universe was expected by a lot of Trekkies – Star Trek fan – and the opinions are split but if you are looking for fresh blood into a quite old franchise, you should take a look at it.
