Introduction

The triangular trade, indicates (ap the exchanges between Europe, Africa, and Americas, to supply Europe with products of these colonies and to supply in Africa the European and American products.
The expression triangular trade does not have to be only reduced to a passage in three phases on three continents: western ships going on the African coast to exchange slaves goods; then transfer of the slaves in America and exchange against a bill of exchange, some sugar, some coffee, some cocoa, some indigo and some tobacco; and finally routing of the American products towards the European ports.

The route of the triangular trade

In the XVIIth century, the business gets organized on a large scale between Europe, Africa and America. We speak then about triangular trade because, the route trains a triangle. Vessels leave the big junk European ports in charge of, that they are going to exchange on coasts of Africa for women and men old enough to work. Then, they head towards the Antilles, Brazil, North America, where the slaves are sold against spices, some sugar, some rum, some coffee, some cocoa, foodstuffs intended to be resold in Europe. In spite of slaves' important losses, this business brings back of fabulous profits to the traders and made the fortune of big French ports. The French people also forward slaves in the colonies of the island Bourbon and of the Paris and the surrounding area. The number of African victims of trafficking is difficult to determine; we know however that millions of people were so deported.
This business allows especially to make exchanges, to sell or to buy goods but also, the triangular trade allowed to practise the slavery

The exchanges of the triangular trade

In West Africa (Senegambia, Gulf of Guinea and Angola), the Europeans make of the barter with Africans to obtain African slaves: firearms, wine, iron bars, and ingots of lead and the cheap junk (glass jewelry, mirrors, alcohol, sugar, cocoa, objects of finery) and shells, cowries which are used as currency in Africa. The slaves are resold in America by auction: a part is paid in cash, the rest is paid to credit. The slaves can be also exchanged for tropical products which are resold very dear in Europe.
Europe supplied the capital, the goods, the men and the necessary ships to go on the African coast and exchange goods for slaves and on the return to America it took care of the transformation of colonial produces.
Africa took care of black slaves. They were captured by others African, transported, parked on the sites of draft, considered by black slave traders, then transferred in America and exchanged for some sugar, some coffee, some cocoa and some tobacco plantations of which used this hand of slavish work.
