Bonjour, j'aimerais avoir votre avis sur ma notion, et m'assurer que mon anglais est assez correct, merci d'avance :)

I'm going to talk about the idea of progress. This notion can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change, scientific or social, an advance which would permit people to have better life condition and to feel happier. Even if most of the people think progress it's beneficial, is still debated because some people fear it. Today we are going to talk about the social evolution, in terms of gender parity. So we can ask ourselves : in what sense can women's right be consider as a form of progress ? To answer at this question we are going to study different documents which deal with this notion.

The first document is a web article named “The Women's Suffrage Movement”. This text explain us how women fought and get the right to vote. Indeed, before the end of the 19th century, women were “dominated” by men, and it was normal for everyone. But since this period, women want equality. Then, in 1903, Emmeline Pankurst and her daughters created the WSPU, the Women's Social and Political Union, also named Suffragette, to defend rights of women. At the beginning, this movement was pacific, but it became violent from 1910 because of the British government who refused to support women suffrage. They organized riots at demonstration with window's smashing. But they were arrested for public disorder and they were put in jail to several days or months. But during the first world war, when men were send to battlefields, they suspended their activities and took their places in factories for example. So at the end of the war, in 1918 an act of parliament eventually implemented the right to vote for women, but it was under some conditions. So women kept fighting again, and their fight bore their fruits in 1928.

This struggle was illustrated by the UK trailer of “Suffragette” a movie of Sarah Gavron. This drama tracks the story of the women of the early feminist movement. Those resisters were forced to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a government more and more violent. These women were not necessary educated, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. So they turned violent and radical too, because they realized that was the only route to change. They were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality: their jobs, their homes, their children, all their lives. This movie tells the story of an ordinary woman who join the suffragette movement.

So women contribute to a social advance, because there were big inequalities between women and men, and women fought to get equality, and even when that didn't work, they continued, and they made sacrifices, until they got what they wanted. If they had not done this, there may never have any social advance, which is very important, because that makes the world a better place.

Even today, there is still gender inequality. Indeed, the last document which I'm dealing with is a Cartoon made for a European campaign for gender equalities. There is two clowns, a man and a woman who make a performance. At the end of the show, an other man came to give them bouquets of flowers, one big for the man who get happy, and a smaller one to the women, who get sad and disappointed. But at night, the man who gave them bouquets saw the women clown cry. So the following day when their performance get finished, he gives them same-size bouquets, and everyone got happy. So this cartoon was made to raise people's awareness about inequalities between men and women, because many people don't realize that it is an important cause that matter, and that makes some people miserable.

To conclude, I will say, that today, many people think that the world had involved enough in social terms, and that the only progress to do is in sciences. But they wrong, they are again social progress to make. Simply in staying in the theme of gender inequalities, we notice many inequalities for women, but they are also inequalities for men, like the fact of that there are more women then men who got the right of custody in case of divorce, or the fact that a man living on his own cannot adopt a child contrary to a woman, for example.
