MLK " I have a dream"
Martin Luther King, MLK or MLK jr.
Born January 15, 1929 killed April 4, 1968
He was an American Clergyman activist and prmonent leader in the African american Civil Rights movement.
You probably heard this sentence: " I have a dream" (Ca pourrait etre aussi le titre de ta presentation)
His speech was given in 1963 during the March on Washington. There, he raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement and established himself as one of the greatest orators in the US history.
Mr King was shot and killed on April 4, 1968 while visiting Memphis, Tenesse in support of the black sanitary public works employees.
Each year, on the third Monday of January, people in the US celebrate a day to remember MLK. This date was commemorated in 1986. We celebrate MLK because he spoke out against segregation, discrimination and hate. Also, he stood up for African-American and poor people.
On the third Monday of January, government offices/schools/postoffices/banks...are closed.
