Sujet du devoir

Bonjour

Massive Open Online Courses are the latest development in Online education. This is a method to help student to complet their degree. It is a coursera who is easily accessible, simple of registration, really practical and free. There are more than 70.000 students who enrolled a week because they are opened to all. The courses on this coursera are very varied as for example economics, management, health, science, history, French, …

The only necessary elements to participate in a MOOC are a computer and an internet connection what allows teachers to be in contact with the students all around the wold. Students can follow the course distance at a time when he wishes without having the constraint to move. Furthermore, the MOOCs offers the luck to attend courses from top tier universities as Oxford or Harvard, that could be an advantage for students having an activity intense professional where those who do not have the means to follow studies where alive people in the poor countries so it give an opportunity to the students to have an acces to higher education.

But MOOCs raise some problems because if students are struggling to move forward or to divert a problem, they can not ask questions Because they do not exist direct links between teachers and students. Furthemore, there are not corrections of homework made by a professor, it is the students themselves who correct the work of other what can be considered as a way of learning by the students. Thus, students must take responsibility for their learning, because they are not supervised, they are left to themselves.

To conclude, I think that it would be necessary to have both educational systems : traditional system in the classroom and MOOC system which can be complementary. We could wonder if the MOOC system will be still free in the future ?

Massive Open Online Courses are the latest development in online education. This is a method to help students in obtaining a degree. It is a course which is easily accessible, easy in registration, really practical and free. There are more than 70.000 students who enrolled each week because registration is opened to everybody. The available courses are very varied and address many topics such as economics, management, health, science, history, foreign languages, …
The only requirements to participate in a MOOC are a computer and an internet connection that allows teachers to be in contact with students all around the world. Students can follow these distant courses at any time they wish without having the physical constraint to attend. Furthermore, the MOOCs offer the opportunity to follow courses delivered by top level universities as Oxford or Harvard. That could also be an advantage for students having an intense professional activity as well for those who do not have the financial means to follow studies as in remote developing countries. All students can thus have acces to higher education.
But MOOCs raise some problems because if students are struggling to move forward or have difficulties to investigate a subject, they cannot ask questions because there does not exist direct links between teachers and students. Furthermore, there are no corrections of homework made by a professor, it is the students themselves who correct the work of others and that can be considered as a way of crosslearning. Thus, students must take full responsibility for their own learning progress, because they are not supervised but left by themselves.
To conclude, I think that it would be necessary to have both educational systems : traditional system in the classroom and MOOC system which can be complementary. We could also wonder if the MOOC system will still be free in the future ?
