Introduction

An exchange is a continuous movement or circulation. It includes all types of exchanges: people, trade or media. A society can be approached from the point of view of its cohesion and openness, which raised questions about its place in the world. Every society is so worked by conflicts between particular and universal, which often recur appositions between tradition and modernity.
But, does integrating necessarily means forgetting one's identity and culture?
First, we see that's you have to forget our identity and color to be integrating and secondly, you doesn't necessarily forgetting one's identity and culture to be integrated.
To illustrate this notion I'm going to talk about immigration in Britain and especially Indian's immigration.
I/
First of all, I studied an extract of a novel entitled « That is Ours Tragedy » written by Monica Ali in 2003. It deals with what assimilations are all about. Should an immigrant take on all the customs of the country have moved or should they follow their own tradition?
This extract reveals Dr Azad's daughter whose hair is discolored, wearing a miniskirt and a blouse, chew gum, speaks English and apparently ask her parents to go to the pub that she forgot her culture and identity. She lives the British way and is fully integrated. For Mrs. Azad, Bangladeshi should adjust to British life, learn the language, live like white ladies and have the philosophy of life seems to be « when in Bangladesh do as Bangladeshi but when in Britain do as British ». So the one hand, to be integrated it's necessary to forget it's culture and live like others to avoid being rejected. Furthermore, if you don't want to live in a kind of prison like Banglasheshi woman because of their clothes (they are covered from head to toe) and that of the language: they are unable to speak English and feel scared when someone addresses them.

II/
However, we must betray one's own culture and identity because that's heritage's origins. And it's impossible to escape one's culture: to become another person and forget one's culture. For instance, I studied an extract from a novel entitled « An Unspoilt Girl from the village »written by Monica Ali. It deals with a young bride Nazneen who is married to Chanu. Nazneen comes from Gouripour and apparently rather plain. She sticks to their traditional lifestyle value and not influenced by Western World that why Chanu married her. Nazneen is a typical Bangladeshi: because they're arranged, she looks after her husbands not to say serves her husband, she does the housework and the cooking and cook's tradition Bangladeshi dishes. This extract perfectly illustrates the idea of keeping one's culture in an another country. Culture also implies notions of transmission and conservation. There are things or values that must be preserved and transmitted to future generation like traditional clothes. For example, I studied a photography shot in London not far from Buckingham Palace We can see a Horseguarg and an midle-age Indian woman walking next to each other. She is wearing a modern coat, but we can also see her traditional Indian clothes. This photography symbolizes the integration of the Indian communities in the United Kingdom.

Conclusion :

To put it in a nutshell, I think we should keep one's culture in the country where we moved and mix with the culture in the country we live. Like that modernity and tradition can work together. I believe that this exchange of culture has helped the Britain to progress towards respect, curiosity and sharing.
