Myths and heroes

Introduction

I am going to present you the notion of Myths and Heroes. First of all I would like to give a definition of this notion: a myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition. A hero is someone who possesses many qualities like courage or strength. A hero can be a mythological figure or an ordinary person like firefighters, volunteers. In general a hero fights against racism or for a cause such as equality or justice. He can change the situation and makes history. We will talk mainly about iconic characters from the world culture. We can therefore ask ourselves the following question: How do some heroes has become icons of world culture? First we will see that they have become global icons by marking culture. Then, others, marking the story.

Developpement :

  1. The heroes who have marked the culture

  1. William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare is considered one of the greatest poets, playwrights and writers of English culture. He is known for his mastery of poetic and literary forms, as well as his ability to represent aspects of human nature.

A prominent figure in Western culture, Shakespeare continues to influence today's artists. It is translated into a large number of languages. He is the third most translated author after Agatha Christie and Jules Verne.

Shakespeare's influence on Anglo-Saxon culture is measured by observing the many references to it, whether through quotations, titles of works or innumerable adaptations of his works.

  1. Harry Potter

Harry Potter is a literary series adapted to the world-famous cinema. Harry is the hero of this story. He is a young boy studying at the wizards school of "Hogwarts".

Eight blockbusters, totaling more than $ 8 billion, are the third most profitable franchises of all time after Marvel and Star Wars. Video games and many other derivative products have also been adapted from the series, not counting amusement parks, exhibitions and digital platforms. K. Rowling is now one of the most widely read British authors on the planet with William Shakespeare and Agatha Christie.

Harry Potter is known to everyone and is rooted in literary and cinematographic culture.

  1. The heroes who have marked the story

  1. Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks is an African-American woman who became an iconic figure in the fight against racial segregation in the United States. She became famous on December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, by refusing to give way to a white passenger on the bus driven by James F. Blake.

Earning her the nickname of "mother of the civil rights movement" from the US Congress.

That day, in Montgomery, Rosa Parks, a 42-year-old black seamstress, could not imagine climbing into the bus driven by James Blake, that her refusal to give way to a white passenger, would change her fate and contribute to change the American society in depth. Rosa Parks later fought against racial segregation with Martin Luther King.

  1. Michael Collins

Republican leader. He was Minister of Finance of the Irish Republic, Leader of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, Director of the IRA Secret Services, Member of the Irish Delegation during the negotiations of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, President of the Provisional Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Irish National Army. Rather, he is recognized as a military leader, but he has also served on a number of political committees.

Michael Collins was a major player in the struggle for Irish independence. He was the instigator of a veritable guerrilla war against the British government, and managed to secure negotiations for an independent and autonomous Republic of Ireland ... as long as the North was left to the English.

Conclusion:

The notion has caught me more icons of world culture and the reason why they are so well known. These heroes have become global icons either by marking culture as William Shakespeare and these many works with a particular language that has seduced the world or Harry Potter who has marked our culture through an extraordinary story that made us dream. Then some, thanks to their heroic acts that have marked history or their commitment to certain causes that have made them emblematic. Rosa Parks has marked the world culture with her heroic act on the bus and then with her commitment to Martin Luther King. Michael Collins has also marked the global culture with his commitment to the independence of Ireland.
