MYTHS AND HEREOS

Today, I will present the notion “Myths and Heroes”

To begin this notion, it’s important give a definitions concerning the subject, we will see what is a myth and what is a heroe.                                                                                                                                   The myth evokes the human condition as a whole, its history first transmitted orally and often embodied by a hero, a place or a community.                                                                                                The hero can be a fictional or real character who has marked tradition, history, everyday life. Popular culture and counterculture continue to produce their own heroes (folklore, comics, etc.)                                                                     So, my question is : Have the heroes had an impact on society?                                                                 We will answer the question thanks to various persons who change the world as : Nelson Mandela, Simone Veil ( his journey ), Martin Luther King ( thanks to the speech ), Gandhi, and Malala.                                                      First, we will see that these people we are going to talk about have changed the lives of thousands or even millions of people. We can then talk about a real positive impact on society thanks to these celebrities. Then, in a second part, we will show the limit of their actions.

First of all, many people have changed the world and people's lives thanks to their humanity and their intellectuality and those that we will present are living proof.

Indeed, let's start with a famous politician who made history thanks to political influence. His truth name is Martin Luther King Junior. He was born in January 15th in1929 in Atlanta and he grew in an America segregationHis education and his studies, will make become pacifist and pastor in a baptist church. He was married with Coretta Scott with which he had 4 children.

Then, Malala is a Pakistani women's rights activist, she was born in 1997 in Mingora, where she opposed the Taliban who tried to ban the education of girls. She is fought for girl’s education in Pakistan.

Without forgetting the great and famous Nelson Mandela. He was born in 1918 in Mvezo and died in 2013 in Johannesburg, he is a South African statesman and was one of the historic leaders in the fight against the institutional political system of racial segregation before becoming president of the Republic of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

To finish, we will talk about the last two people who marked history who are Gandhi, born in Porbandar in 1869 and who died assassinated in Delhi in 1948, he was a political leader, important spiritual guide of India and of the movement for the independence of this country. Finally, Simone Veil born in 1927 in Nice and who died in 2017 in Paris, he was a magistrate and a French politician.

In the second part, we will see their fabulous actions towards the world and towards the people.

First, Martin Luther King is a great hero because this man fought against the racial segregation in the United States and for the civil rights of African-American. He have organized the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955. It began when Rosa Parks refused to move to make way for a white man. Accordingly, Martin led a boycott of the transit system. The boycott lasted more than a year. It was very tense at times. In 1963, he helped to organize the famous March on Washington. Over 250 000 people attended this March in an effort to show the importance of civil rights legislation. They hoped for the end to segregation in the society. It was at this moment where Martin gave his « I have a Dream » speech, the most famous speech in history. He embodies true valors, freedom, equality, pacifism, power.
Today, his image is mythic. He embodies the myth of the no-violenc
e, equality and the liberty. He received throughout his life numerous prices, a Nobel Prize in 1964, American Liberties Medallion in 1965.

My first document illustrates these actions well,  is a picture of Martin Luther King, giving his spech « I have a Dream » in 1963, in Washington. He became a hero in the sixties, as the leader of the African-american Civil Rights Movement. He fought all his life for equality among races, and his tragic death in 1968 turned him into a legend. Fifty years after his death, he is still seen as one of the most prominent hero of the 20th century. «I have a dream» became one of the most famous speeches of all time. Even Barack Obama cites it as an inspiration. Indeed, an american film was made in 2014 representing the role played by Martin Luther King a few years earlier. Selma directed by Ava DuVernay. But Selma is also a city in Alabama. It is directly inspired by the events which took place in the city of Selma (Alabama) in 1965, concerning the American civil rights movement.

My second document is a text of Malala. Malala is a Pakistani women's rights activist, she was born in 1997 in Mingora, where she opposed the Taliban who tried to ban the education of girls. She is fought for girl’s education in Pakistan. Indeed it shows the influence of the Taliban in the Pakistani valley. She referred in particular to the public floggings and destruction of girls schools, banning television, dance and music.

This girl is considered a heroin because she fought for the girls right to get an education, not only in Pakistan but all over the world. She knew that, by doing this, she risked her life, she had been threatened before.  Martin Luther King and Malala are great examples of the american dream, having worked really hard to attain immense levels of success.

Nelson Mandela was one of the historic leaders of the fight against the black discrimination and was the first black president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela was born in 1918 in South Africa. At this moment, this country was part of the British Empire and was ruled by the white government. This government had created a political and social system where only white had political rights. Moreover, I have chosen Nelson Mandela’s biography which retraces the life of Nelson Mandela. We learn that he became lawyer at a time where blacks had access to education. He joined politics early and he has never stopped his fight against the apartheid. He quickly became the enemy of the government, then he spent 27 years in prison, but he never betrayed his ideal even when the white government offered him to negotiate his freedom. That’s why he’s an icon for the generation of black South Africans.

The author want’s to show us that Nelson  was a wise man with a great strenght moral. Finally, Nelson Mandela is a hero for South Africa as despite all difficulties he went through, he managed to reach his goal to bring peace in South Africa.

In 1974 she became Minister of Health and filled this position for five years. On one hand, she wrote an important law in 1975 about contraception and abortion which were forbidden before. Her ideas show us her will to make new plans to improve women’s lives and to make progress in equality between men and women. Moreover, the law she wrote about abortion launched a polemic because of people who didn’t see it as good idea, but she persevered and finally got what she wanted. Her determination allowed important progress for women of her period and for all the women today. On the other hand, she has been an exemplary politician. Indeed, she became the first woman President of the European Parliament and the first woman State minister. Thanks to this woman, there were several agreements on the survivors of the second world war, thanks to it they were able to be heard and many commemorations exist today.

Finally, Gandhi is the emblematic figure of the independance of India. He was the peeminent leader of Indian nationalism. He led national compaigns for alleviating poverty, expanding women's right, putting an end to caste discrimination. His ultimate objective was self-rule for India. In 1930, he led a landmark 320km march to the seo in oder to collect salt in symbolic defiance of the government monopoly.  His personnality made a great impact on people thanks to his human qualities : modest, humble, considering every body on an equal foot... He embodies the non-violent desobedience and the peace in the world.

To conclude my notion, each mentioned celebrities are the subject of great importance in the life of each person today. They are real heroes but also real myths and are today thanked for their courage, their will and their ambition.
