You are a pupil in a British school. The Headmaster of your school suggests organising some
fundraising activities for charity. He asks the pupils to propose a charity. You think The
sunshine Fund for children looks interesting but you have to convince your Headmaster!
Read this document and answer the questions which will help you prepare a presentation of
the organisation’s activities.

our mission
The Sunshine Fund for Children was founded in 1959.
Our goal is to help children in need.
This includes children who are seriously ill in this country as well as sick, homeless or
abandoned children in other countries.
examples of our action overseas
• We manage sixteen orphanages around the world for children who are homeless or
abandoned.
• We organise vaccination programmes in twenty-five countries.
• We provide free education for poor children in six countries.
• We manage two children’s hospitals in Africa.
examples of our action here in Great Britain
• Every summer we organise camps for children suffering from serious illnesses such as
cancer. These camps are free of charge.
• We also organise family weekends for the families of sick children.
• We organize day trips and picnics for children who are too ill to travel.

School of the month!
We’d like to thank the Lady Gregory School in Manchester for their magnificent help. They
organized a 24 hour non-stop hip show last month. They raised the incredible sun of £1700
for The Sunshine Fund. Well done!
