I am going to talk about the notion of places and forms of power. I would like to give a definition of this notion. The power is the capacity to exercise a control over somebody, but leads generally to conflicts between those who have the power and those who do not accept it. To illustrate this notion I have chosen three documents, two about the KU KLUX KLAN the first one is an audio document An American assistant from the South who speaks about the KKK, the second is a photo of a KKK group welcoming a new member. And the last document is entitled Strange Fruit, is a protest song by Billie Holiday, that denounces lynching in the south. We are going to wonder, from these documents, how to destabilize a power extremists?

We are going to begin by presenting the KuKluxKlan. The Kukluxklan called often by its initials KKK, is a secret society, a racist organization, a Christian created in 1860. Is a sect really violent, an extremist organization. As the photo shows it they wear white robes that are historically a Christian symbols and white pointed hoods, indeed they don’t want people to be able to recognize them. Furthermore on this photo, a scene is represented, that where they welcome a new member  of their sect, the atmosphere is dark and gloomy it looks like a black mass. All the seet members are standing around a burning cross; another Christian symbol. Moreover there is an American flag to represent their nation; they want to defend it against non-white people and Jesus, and they are against all religions except their own. Then in the second document, an American assistant from the South of America,  speaks about this sect, the KKK. In the world they are famous , even in France, more precisely in Perpignan they are present. The most terrible is that they were famous for lynchings, wich were hangings, wich were mobs which came together and hung black people. They were so racist that black people, black men, were accused of crimes which they may not have commited but instead of having trial by jury, these great mobs that would come together in communities and judge them, without reason, outside of justice system.

In a second part, we will see that soon people will mobilize to counter this power to do justice himself. For example we will use the protest song by Billie Holiday Strange Fruit. This song is called Strange fruit but is also called The first protest song. Indeed since the twentieth century racism against blacks in America has increased. Then a woman Billie Holiday interprets a protest song against racism in the United States, especially against lynchings suffered by African Americans. To put it more precisely, the strange fruit represents the body of a black skin man hanging from a tree. For instance in the second stanza it says “ the bulding eyes and the twisted mouth… then the sudden smell of burning flesh”.  Therefore, this song is a protest song denouncing the power that gives the KKK, the lynching of black people.

In conclusion, I can say that there are groups of people who come together to exercise a power that is outside of the system of justice, as we have shown with the KKK and its power to bring justice itself. However, against this racial segregation, some men destabilize, oppose at this power which for them is not necessary, as the fact Billie holiday.

Le problème avec les correction de fautes c'est que l'on ne peut pas faire de copier/coller dans les commentaires et c'est beaucoup trop long à recopier
