Dear President Obama,
I am writing to you to let you know about my feelings about the war in Afghanistan. My grandfather is a Vietnam War veteran and I was told that war could be the only way to find a solution to a longtime conflict. In 2001, when my country was attacked by a terrorist group called Al Qaeda, I wanted my country to retaliate against those who perpetrated or supported terrorism. I supported my troops when they were sent to Iraq. But now, I have to admit that I was wrong. In 2010, I decided to volunteer for the American Red Cross and was sent to Afghanistan. I stayed there for one year trying to help Afghan people to cope with the horrors of this war. What I saw cannot be described! This war has paid a high toll on children. Many of them have lost limbs in antipersonnel mines. Most of the casualties from violence in Afghanistan are civilians. Afghanistan has been deadlier for U.S. troops than Iraq. The Taliban has not been stopped and they are increasing their presence in the North. As a result, local people live in the fear. A famine has hit the country and many Afghans are starving. I urge you to act before it is too late. This war has caused enough casualties and our troops will eventually lose this war. Ben Laden belongs to the past now. We need to rebuild Afghanistan and make this country a safer place.
