Dans quels énoncés peut-on effacer THAT ?
J'ai mis "that" entre parenthèses quand on peut l'enlever et en gras quand ceci n'est pas possible:
1. The only chair THAT was occupied was in the corner of the room. (on ne peut pas l'enlever car la relative précise "quelle chaise" = la seule qui était occupée)
2. The first person (that) I saw was the waiter.
3. Did you try the new perfume (that) I gave you?
4. We found ourselves in a spacious hallway THAT was lit by candles.(précision par rapport à "hallway")
5. Is there anything (that) I can do for you?
6. Unfortunately, there are lots of things (that) I need to buy before the trip.
7. They’ve just bought a fantastic machine THAT prints names on badges.(précision importante par rapport à "machine")
8. Muhammad Ali is often considered the greatest boxer THAT ever lived.(cela n'aurait pas de sens sans THAT - c'est seulement possible lorsqu'on dit p.ex. MA is the greatest boxer (that) I've ever seen. Tu constates qu'il y a "I" dans le deuxième exemple, avec un nouveau pronom on peut enlever THAT.... c'est d'ailleurs le cas pour la 2) la 3) la 5)et la 6).
