For Machiaveli all means were good to reach our goal. But does the end justify the means?
From a moral standpoint, we can say that the morality of an act can be determined only at the point in time when it is committed. The most important thing is the goal we have set ourselves. So we have do anything possible to reach our goal. For some people, it does not matter whether these methods are legal or illegal, fair or foul, kind or cruel, truth or lies, democratic or dictatorial, good or evil.it doesn't matter how it is achieved as long as you get the desired result. For example, some politicians would use any methods to be elected. They would lie and cheat to win the election. The outcome is the only that matters to them. During the world war 2, Einstein used to wonder if the atomic bomb was the right thing to stop the war. The Americans dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima killing thousands of people. The casualties were very important. The Americans knew that the means they used was not morally acceptable but enabled to stop the war. So killing someone to save others may also be morally justifiable in some people’s eyes. I definitely believe that the goal we have to reach is important but I will never use immoral methods to achieve my goal. To my mind, morality and honesty are very important values. When you do something dishonest, you have to live with your conscience. I am in a certain way a deontologist and killing and lying are not acceptable. On the whole, it is important to meet your goal but the means you will use do not have to be reprehensible.
