Où j'en suis dans mon devoir

I studied this year the notion of spaces and exchanges. The subject that I am going to treat is the global cities. We studied in particular two examples of global cities. To begin with, I’d like to give a definition of global cities The global city is a very big, large city with millions of people and vast, huge suburbs. It's a mega city where several people commute and exchange, it's also a multicultural city where different people live together. The city can regroup several powers like economic, policy, cultural... In class we studied two global cities. There are dynamics hubs, leaders in the world economy, international marketplaces. We worked on London during the 19th century (Industrial Revolution) y Singapour nowadays. So what impact do global cities have on people’s everyday lives? My presentation will fall into to parts. To answer this question, i'm going to talk about 2 exemples of global cities we have studied this year. On the one hand London and on the second hand Singapore.

To start I am going to talk about the city of London during the Industrial Revolution. We worked a document entitled In the eyes of Dickens to describe te city of London during the Industrial Revolution (a novelist). The document describe people crossing the Bridge by foot on their way home in London, there are warmly clothed with Edwardian clothes. The narrator show the impact of bad weather pollution and overcrowding, we can have a gloomy vision of London at the turn of the XX century. We studied also a text called the «drawbacks of big cities», it's about the Great Smog in 1952, many people died due to this smog during thee Christmas shopping season.

So we can say that in the past global cities like London was affected by the pollution and especially the smog due to the chimney pots (smoke+fog from a mixture of air pollutants) people was busy and irritable of this urban pollution. But today London became a greener cities thank's to its initiatives. This is the reason why London became a global city.

Now i'm going to talk about an another example of global cities as Singapore. Singapore named also the Lion city was before a city very poor but this city have emerged thanks to the development on high-quality school, public services and also health care and a comfortable way of life. Now Singapore has become a modern country. The diversity of the population is due to it's role such as an economics hub which attracts people all over the world. Moreover we studied a picture which represent a t-shirt sold in Singapore. The t-shirt is covered in 9 ban signs, thus it's forbidden to do many things in Singapore like using chewing gum, smoking or picking flowers. The lion city is one of the cleanest city in the world. Singapore is a «fine» city because if people don't respect the law they are finned of 1,000 dollars and we can say that it's a little excessive . So the city is very strict and the individuals freedom are limited. We can say that global cities likes Singapore wants to promote and respect the environment with the respect of the laws.

To conclude, we can say that global cities has brought a wealth of culture, linguistic and ethnic diversity and presents advantages but also drawbacks. However Global cities have to solve problems in terms of pollution. More and more cities pollute the environment and generate global warming. However cities try to find solution to reduce their pollution and carbon print to live in a better world. Singapore and London are two exemples of global cities and millions exchange and people take place...
